AJANTA CAVES UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE, 110 km from Aurangabad. 30 rocks cut Buddhist caves, along with world famous painting assumed to be the first complete art, as Ajanta caves was carved in 2nd century BCE to about 480 or 650 CE. The caves were covered by jungle accidentally discovered in 1819 by a British officer JOHN SMITH.
DAULATABAD FORT is a 14th century fort located about 16 km northwest to Aurangabad, Old Name: Deogiri, Founded by : Bhilamraja in 1187. DAULATABAD was capital of India for a short period during the regime of Sultan Mohammad-Bin-Tughluq.
BIBI-KA-MAQBARA was built in 1660 by prince Azam Shah, son of the emperor Aurangzeb, as a loving tribute to his mother. This monument is also called the “TAJ OF DECCAN”.
